YEARS 2003 & 2004
I picked up my first pair of drumsticks at the age of fourteen with no method book, just curiosity and a strong musical pulse running through my veins.
Over time, that basement hobby grew into a path that led from garages to small clubs, larger venues and very different stages and rehearsal rooms.
A few months later I started taking lessons with Marko Juvan (Big Band RTV Slovenia), where I met metronome for the first time. Not long after that, a few high school friends started a band in a basement of a flat.
We played our favourite songs by legendary rock bands, not knowing really how to play. With time, we got better and better and soon found ourselves a new rehearsal place, that felt a little more like home. In the following years I played in several bands, recorded demo tracks, singles and albums and experienced everything from intimate club shows to festival stages.
2014
In 2014 I packed my drum bag and travelled to Grožnjan, Croatia, to join the Croatian Drum Camp – one of Europe’s most respected drum camps. The medieval town filled with artistic spirit and world-class drummers completely changed how I absorbed the art of drumming.
2015
Along the way I completed the RSL drum exams and deepened my theoretical knowledge, while also widening my musical perspective.
An award-winning boot camp in Austria was another special endeavour. Three days of hands on, intense workouts, sweat and the realisation that serious drumming can feel like both physical and mental cardio.
2016
After many hours spent behind the kit, I started shaping my ideas into something more permanent – the handbooks Drum S.O.S. – First Aid and Drum S.O.S. – Crypto Rhythm. Around the same time, I began sharing my experience as a mentor in two elementary schools while also giving private lessons.
Why? Because I believe everyone carries potential within and every story can inspire someone else. You won’t find the handbook Crypto Rhythm on any crypto based platform, but you could come across one in the National and University Library of Ljubljana, Slovenia. A small yet meaningful milestone.
With a wish of building a community and giving back, I launched a charity project Drum S.O.S., which aim was to help young talents get an appropriate drum kit. The ending ceramony, with the introduction of the drumset, was a perfect marriage of music, social impact and sport.
2017
Becoming a member of Sabian Education Network (SEN) and D’Addario Education Collective allowed me to keep growing as an educator in the company of outstanding drummers from around the world.
Drums also led me onto the movie screen. With one of my bands we took part in the feature-length Slovenian documentary Iron Footsteps, directed by Denis Brnčič.
At the London Drum Show, one of the world’s drumming mecca`s, I had the chance to present my handbook and the Drum S.O.S. project to an international audience.
