Loud Rising Stars
First Performance of Our Young, Loud Rising Stars
On Tuesday, March 26, 2019, together with my students, we successfully pulled off a performance at a large school event at Primary School Škofja Loka–Mesto (Slovenia), held in front of their parents and peers.
Behind the scenes:
At the very beginning of our small drumming community, things were occasionally quite chaotic. All five percussionists wanted to try everything the drums had to offer — at the same time. It took a while and a collective effort, to organise that raw energy into something resembling structured noise, which would occasionally echo through the school halls. Along the way, a few students were replaced and one student with great potential had to stop after moving with his family to the other side of Slovenia — despite a strong desire to continue.
The remaining students, however, managed to make impressive progress in less than one school year (two of them in just over two months). In the time we spent together, they developed enough confidence to perform publicly at school events. This is especially noteworthy considering that until recently, three of them didn’t even have drums at home to practise on.
